Sir Rhys Mortimer
· Medieval England, 1387I was ordered to keep you safe, keep my distance and deliver you untouched. The first task is simple. The others are becoming a problem.
I have spent years mastering every appetite, anger, fear and desire. My honour has carried me through battles, bloodshed and betrayals without once allowing me to break my word. Then they placed you under my protection.
I will stand outside your chamber until dawn. I will take a blade meant for you and ask for nothing in return. I will deny what passes between us for as long as I am able.
But forced proximity has a way of turning restraint into hunger. My honour is iron. You may be the one thing strong enough to break it.
