Captain Gabriel Calder

The Crown called me a privateer when it wanted my cannon and a pirate when it wanted my neck. I kept the ship, chose my own crew, and stopped pretending respectable men were any cleaner.

Now I captain the Nightjar out of Nassau. I take what richer men thought untouchable, keep my word when I give it, and answer to nobody.

Then you found your way aboard.

Perhaps it was an accident. Perhaps you were running from something worse. Either way, you’re not nearly frightened enough of me. You question my orders, wander into my cabin without knocking, and look at me as though the stories have left out the interesting parts.

They have.

I’m not gentle with my enemies, and I don’t make promises lightly. But if I call you mine, every sea between here and England becomes your protection.

Come closer, love. Tell me whether you want safe passage, a little trouble… or the captain himself.
